Curation
Chasing The Light Studio curates site-specific exhibitions that bring together interpretations of selected themes. We specialise in creating sensorial exhibits, including sight, sound, and scent, for a memorable visitor experience and discussing the exhibit's theme with speakers, painters, sculptors, installation artists, sound artists, and filmmakers.
We are currently expanding our curation prospects by collaborating with UK corporate spaces, such as the Landmark Flexible Workspace, and emerging talent from the local community coming into action in July 2022.
‘Invisible Sun’, Berlin Wall
November 2019
This installation by Bobby Sager and curated by Maya Sanbar was displayed alongside the ‘Chasing the Light’ tunnel installation at the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Sager exhibited his large-scale photographs taken between September 11, 2001, and December 2018 during his philanthropic trips to Afghanistan, Syria, and Pakistan to Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Palestine, and the Tibetan Diaspora. Each child is either an orphan, child soldier, refugee, or a regular kid living in a war-torn country, experiencing displacement, abuse, or the ripple effects of a natural disaster. Their photographs are mounted on five 3 meter tall monoliths representing the fragments of the wall, deconstructed. The childrens' gazees are strong and powerful, representing their search for the slightest bit of hope amid social, political, and environmental challenges.
Snowflake Kitchen, Goldfinger Factory, London
December 2020
The ‘Snowflake Kitchen’ was a project curated by Maya Sanbar and Caroline Boseleya, displaying a collection of custom, unique ceramic snowflakes (cut-offs from the fashion brand Whistles’ window display) created by 40 commissioned artists and local residents from the Kensington and Chelsea area in December 2020. The snowflakes were auctioned online to support the London-based social enterprise, Goldfinger’s People’s Kitchen, which aimed to deliver hot meals to vulnerable people in North Kensington during the first lockdown. As said by Goldfinger’s Founder, Marie Cudennec, “creating these beautiful objects reminds us of the critical role the arts play in social cohesion and wellbeing”.
‘Light Works’ at Andrea Hamilton Studio, London
May 2021
The ‘Sea Garden’ installation was created alongside the ‘Light Works’ show, featuring Sanbar’s ‘Conduitions’ sculpture series (2020-2021). Sanbar curated the secret garden in the heart of Belgravia, offering a respite from the buzzing city of London to visitors, immersing them in scent, sound, and green moss under their feet, and encouraging a slowing down and contemplation of nature. Sandbar's papier-mâché sculptures and painted glass pieces were exhibited to capture the show’s message of light, form, and color.
